It is between the ages of three and six that the child most easily learns the ground rules of human behavior. These years should be constructively devoted to freeing the child through the acquisition of good manners and habits to allow him/her to succeed.
Each room is equipped a full set of hands on materials consistent with our teaching methods. Because the materials focus on the child’s senses and hands on experiences their minds are developed in the world of abstract ideas. Our rooms embrace a variety of subjects such as geography, history, science, music, art, language, and mathematics.
Children work in an orderly environment of freedom, working on independently chosen tasks. There is no timetable of regimented activities or a fixed syllabus to cramp the expansion of the mind.
This is a time to introduce academic skills with concrete materials. Children will learn through feeling different sizes and shapes, lengths and widths constructing words and sentences with wooden letters which will enhance reading and writing skills. Different countries are introduces through beautiful wooden maps and look like puzzles that develop geographic skills.
Language is introduced through labeling object, focusing on the sounds, improving reading as well as vocabulary. Our concrete math materials allow children to comprehend numbers and math functions, prior to being able to write. Practical life activities develop gross and fine motor skills, as well as a sense of independence.
A three to six year old is ready for a world of new adventures and is observing everything around them. Our teachers are trained in child development and the philosophies of Dr. Montessori, Sequin, Itard and Piaget.
The Carolina School believes on focusing on the child as an individual and the development of the whole child. Children are not held back by a group lesson plan, but able to advance at their own pace.
