Toddler Program

The Toddler Room

(18 months-3 years)

A Toddler is a child in transition.  They are always moving from one activity to another.  Our Toddler Program is designed to utilize this movement.  The goal is to work the child toward achieving concentration, coordination, independence, cooperation and a sense of order.  This is the time to work on transitioning the child from their home environment to a school environment.

Toilet training is also an important issue at this time.  We work with each child beginning with the basics.  First, inviting each child to sit on the toilet, then working with them to learn to push and pull their pants up and down and finally learning to recognize their body’s signals to “go”.

Learning to feed one-self is also important to the child’s development.  All utensils, cups and dinnerware and seating are child size.

We also work with the child on completing a full “work cycle”.  Gathering their work, finding the appropriate spot to complete this work, and finally finishing the process by returning their work to its proper place is the “work cycle”.

Language development is also a primary focus of the Toddler prgram.  This is a time when the child is learning to follow simple instructions and developing their sense of order.   We use proper terminology for items and encourage the child to use his/her words instead of pointing, grunting and/or screaming. This helps them develop their social skills and learn cooperation with others.

We will begin to develop their intellectual skills and senses by introducing colors, textures, numbers and letters.  This is done by reading stories, singing songs, art projects and one on one attention.  The Carolina School Toddler program focuses on the development of the whole child.
